Sarah Putterman – Associate Director / Dancer
Sarah Putterman is a dance artist working throughout the triangle with numerous groups as a teacher, choreographer, and performer. Sarah graduated from NC State University in 2006. She has trained at the Interlochen Arts Academy and University of North Carolina School of the Arts under Mel Tomlinson and Melissa Hayden. Sarah also studied at George Washington University under Dana Tai-Soon Burgess. In addition to teaching dance in the BFA program at William Peace University since 2011, Sarah is an instructor at North Carolina Dance Institute, where she has studied and worked for many years under the direction of Kirstie Tice Spadie. Previously, Sarah was a lead teaching artist with North Carolina Arts in Action, a local affiliate of the National Dance Institute, founded by New York City Ballet principal dancer and pioneer for arts education Jacques D’Amboise. She has guest taught and set works on schools throughout the area, including Enloe High School, Ligon Middle School, and Athens Drive High School. Sarah danced for three seasons with Natalie Marrone’s The Dance Cure, with whom she performed at The American Dance Festival in June 2013. In addition to her work as Associate Director of Black Irish Contemporary Hip Hop Company, Sarah is also a resident artist with Black Box Dance Theatre, curated by Michelle Pearson. She has toured with the North Carolina Dance Festival with Courtney Greer, as well as with Black Irish Contemporary Hip Hop Company, performed at The North Carolina Dance Alliance, and appeared in original works by Grady Bowman, Renay Aumiller, and Lindsey Matheis. Her passion for dance is evident to all who know her, and she loves to share that passion with her students and her community.
